This England....
A series of images presented as a slideshow - taken in Britain in the 21st century. |
||
Mill Lawn, Burley, New Forest
Mill Lawn, Burley, is a popular spot where road crosses the stream in two fords. After heavy rain the stream can become a torrent but here is much more the autumnal flow with ponies coming into the stream to drink. |

Rime frost on a cold winter's morning
Rime frost is quite a rare occurence - being created when supercooled liquid droplets (freezing fog) condense onto branches, wires, leaves etc. A gentle breeze drifts the droplets past the branches which become coated with ice crystals on one side. This was taken mid-morning on a freezing day in January near Brockenhurst in the New Forest. |

Grey Squirrel
Help yourself - the scourge of the bird table! A grey squirrel helps himself to nuts in January! |
||
Campanula: Mottisfont Abbey gardens
Mottisfont Abbey - a tranquil garden in Hampshire's Test valley, owned and cared for by the National Trust. The Abbey rose garden is at its best in June with flowers and scent lingering on into July. |

Grazing deer in the New Forest
A pair of young stags grazing near Sway in the New Forest on a warm June evening. This pair seemed quite unconcerned about nearby traffic or the presence of people..... |
||
Busking in Bath
Street entertainers performing in Bath - and demonstrating for television to protest against the plans to extend the seating area of the Pump Room restaurant, removing their performance space. |
||
Uppark House - South Harting, West Sussex
Destroyed by fire in 1989, this William and Mary period house (1690s) has now been completely rebuild and restored to its pre-fire condition. To restore Uppark took a massive effort - and cost many millions of pounds. The house is well worth a visit - and the exhibition shows just how the rebuilding developed as craftsmen had to learn old skills long forgotten |
||
Guernsey, Channel Islands
The rocky north shore of the small Channel Island of Guernsey - seen here near Vale to the north of St. Peter Port. |
||
Corfe Castle, Dorset
Corfe Castle is a visitors dream - a huge castle set atop a mound in a small gap in the Purbeck hills and surrounded by a picturesque village. |
||
Sunset over Poole Harbour
Late evening as the Sun sets over Poole harbour, Dorset (2nd May, 1999) |

Slow trains!
A mis-spelled sign on a railway bridge at Salisbury, Wiltshire. South West Trains have been criticized for poor timekeeping and slow services, but this seems a little too slow....... |
