Images taken in August 2006 on two Devon railways - the Paignton and Dartmouth Railway (Paignton to Kingswear) and the South Devon Railway (Buckfastleigh to Totnes).

The Paignton to Kingswear line provides steep gradients as the line climbs from sea level at Goodrington to Churston (197 feet above sea level) and then drops down to river level to the Dart at Kingswear. The Paignton to Dartmouth line is a steam operated commercial railway, describing itself as 'the nation's holiday line'. In August, the line was the destination for mainline specials from Bristol - headed by 6024 King Edward 1

The South Devon Railway follows the valley of the River Dart as it drops from Buckfastleigh to Totnes (Littlehempston). This volunteer operated line provides a real taste of a West Country branch line in days past......
